3 Easy Tips on Using Your Snow Thrower

Did you recently purchase a new snow thrower and need some quick advice on how to use it?

Check out a few snow thrower operating tips, so you’ll be prepared to take on the snow this winter. Whether it is from a few inches or a blizzard.

Check Your Snow Thrower in Advance

Check the following before you use your snow thrower:

  • Have the gas tank filled with fresh stabilized fuel, and the oil is filled to the proper level.
  • Make sure to clear all foreign objects from your driveway or sidewalk.
  • Wear appropriate clothing that will not get stuck on any parts of the machine. This would include gloves, safety glasses, and bright colored clothing.
  • Read the Owner’s Manual to understand how to operate the controls.

Start the Snow Thrower in an Appropriate Area

Before you start, make sure the auger and drive clutch are disengaged. You will want to start your snow thrower outside or in the garage with the door open, so the fumes won’t be overpowering.

Many snow blowers now come with an electric start option, which requires an extension cord to be plugged into an outlet. Check your owner’s manual for extension cord recommendations.

Snow Thrower DON’TS

In all the excitement of operating your snow thrower, don’t forget about these snow blower don’ts.

  • You do not want to leave a running snow thrower unattended.
  • Don’t clean out the chute or augers with your hands or feet.
  • You will not want to  point the chute at buildings, cars, or people.
  • Don’t refuel while the engine is on.
  • You should not start the snow thrower in an enclosed area.
  • Don’t use the snow thrower to clear anything other than snow

Conclusion

The best piece of advice when learning to use new equipment is to read the owner’s manual for more detailed explanations on how to operate certain parts and features. So, when the next Winter storm comes, you’ll be ready to get out there and try out your snow blowing skills.

Tips and Tricks for Preparing Your Snow Thrower for Winter

There is no worse feeling than being stuck with a driveway full of snow and a broken snow thrower. This is why it is so important to service your snow thrower throughout the year and perform proactive maintenance. If you do not service your machine routinely, it will not continue to work and perform in the way you want it to. Even though it is August, now is the time to start preparing your snow thrower for the winter. Here are some tips and tricks:

Check Oil Level

You will first want to check the oil level on your snow thrower and make sure it is up to level. You turn and pull it out the dip-stick just as you would on a car. Check the level and determine if you need to add more oil.

Check Fuel

Next up is to check the fuel. You may have fuel in the thrower from last year, if it smells off, you should drain it and add new gas. To drain the fuel, you will want to make sure you have a good sized drain pan. Unscrew the nut underneath the carburetor, and place the drain pan underneath.

Once you have drained the snow thrower of the fuel, you can add the new fuel. You can add gas and also add StarTron. This stabilizes the gas and also cleans out what is left within the carburetor. Gas normally has a shelf-life of 30-60 days. You can also purchase TruFuel which lasts longer than gas. This can be a great option for snow throwers, as you do not need gas as often as you would for a car.

Check Controls

Now that you have oil and gas in the snow thrower you will want to make sure the machine turns on and check the controls. Make sure that both the auger and transmission engage.

Check Chute

You will now want to check and ensure that your chutes turn properly and the directional parts work as well.

Five Reasons You Should Invest In A Pressure Washer

While pressure washers may seem expensive, they really are worth the investment. Suburban has a variety of pressure washers to choose from. Here are five reasons why a pressure washer is a good investment.

1. Keeps you and your family healthy

Allergens like pollen, mildew, algae and mold often settle in the crevices on the exteriors of homes. Pressure washing your home every so often can help to eliminate these allergens and alleviate any pesky allergy symptoms. Pressure washing is a great way to reduce symptoms during allergy season.

2. Increases property value

Pressure washing your home can immediately increase curb appeal and property value. It is a simple task that can really go a long way. It is also a necessary task before painting or renovating the exterior of your home, so you can be one step ahead when preparing for updates to your home.

3. Saves you money in the long run

Hiring a pressure washing service can be expensive. The national average cost of a pressure washing service is $299. By purchasing a Hustler pressure washer from Suburban Lawn Equipment, after two uses you will already have made up the cost. By pressure washing regularly you can save on repair bills.

4. Prevents damage and helps with proactive maintenance

The dirt, mold, mildew and debris that can accumulate on the exterior of homes can cause many larger issues when not properly taken care of. By being proactive you can reduce the risk of these issues and save yourself some time and money. A pressure washer makes this process much easier than doing much of the cleaning by hand.

5. Most efficient for cleaning exteriors

A pressure washer is the most efficient way to clean not only the exterior of your home but other aspects of your property like; driveways, curbs, steps, decks, patios and outdoor furniture. Using a pressure washer makes these tasks much easier.

Keeping your family healthy and your house looking great can be easy when you buy a pressure washer from Suburban Lawn Equipment! Check out our current special on Hustler pressure washers and stop by and speak with one of our sales specialists today. They will help you select the right pressure washer for your needs. We fully service all the equipment we sell, to ensure your equipment lasts for years to come.

8 Easy Ways to Market Your Landscaping Business

1) Brand Recognition – Get ahead of the pack by creating an attractive name and logo for your landscaping business. Professional logos transfer well to all sorts of advertising mediums, such as trucks, flyers, stationary, website and apparel.

The more you circulate yourself across a variety of platforms, the greater your name and brand recognition will become.

2) Website – Many landscapers discount the importance of having a user-friendly up-to-date website. This is a mistake. Expectations are a lot higher than they were even 5 years ago. Many of your clientele will prefer to contact you in their free time after business hours. A website contact form presents them with an opportunity to contact you during off hours.

3) Directory Listings – Much as we would like to think the landscaping business is word-of-mouth (and it is), if you want to branch out then correctly listing your business in directories such as Google, Bing, Yelp is a good start.

4) Yard Signs – Professional-looking lawn signs are a great way of showing y our business side, especially when your former clients agree to display them in their own yards. Also, potential new clients will know right away what your business is all about – they can see results right in front of them!

5) Magnetic Signs   Simply put your logo and contact information on the truck (as a bumper sticker) or on a side of the vehicle for free advertising!

6) Direct mailing – Believe it or not, another successful way to reach more potential customers is through direct mail postcards targeting your geographic market. Check out some of these  landscaping postcard samples to get ideas.

7) Fliers and Door Hangers – Believe it or not, some people still prefer to receive a paper copy of whatever you’re trying to sell! Get fliers and door hangers and pass them out in your neighborhood. Even better if you offer an incentive like a special discount for first time customers. Don’t forget to include a detachable business card for future reference.

8) Get Social – Sharing your before and after pictures on social media channels is an invaluable marketing tool. Engage your customers and they will cheer you on. Don’t be afraid to share, post, tweet, and simply have fun with it!

So, there you have it. 8 simple ways to market your landscaping business at a very affordable price. Of course, getting involved within the community that your business services will create good will and increase your brand’s impression.
